Description
1. History
Petit Louvie is a farm cheese produced for over 25 years by Ferme Frady, which raises goats in the Ossau valley in Béarn. Named after the nearby village of Louvie-Juzon, it differs from Crottin du Béarn mainly in its shape. The farm also uses the goats' wool to make mohair clothing.
2. Physical characteristics
This small cheese weighs about 265 grams and has a slightly bluish rind. Its paste is soft with a natural rind, offering a firm yet melting texture. Made from raw goat's milk, it is typical of artisanal farm productions.
3. Taste profile
The nose reveals a characteristic underwood aroma. On the palate, it delivers a slightly salty flavor with a pronounced goat taste. Its melting texture balances its firmness perfectly, making it highly enjoyable.
4. Production zone and period
Produced in Louvie-Juzon, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, by Ferme Frady in Pédestarrès. This Béarnese mountainous area is ideal for goat farming. Production is farm-based and artisanal, with no specific seasonal details.
5. Certification
Petit Louvie has no AOC, AOP, or IGP certification; it is a traditional farm cheese. Its production follows artisanal raw milk methods without an official label. This ensures its local authenticity and farm quality.
